Adult Day Center
Adults age 60 or over and their caregivers find comfort and
warmth at the Adult Day Center. This safe and secure setting
provides a daytime retreat with trained staff and caring
volunteers giving emotional support and helping individuals
with reinforcement of activities of daily living.
Professional medical supervision is provided at the center,
along with special diets as needed. A secured memory care
unit is available for individuals with mid-to-late stage
Alzheimer’s disease.
The
Caregiver Support Program
A
comprehensive community support and education program
provided in both individual and group settings. The
Caregiver Program is situated in ten different locations in
Manatee County and is open to all caregivers and clients.
Lectures and educational seminars are available for
caregivers as well as private counseling sessions. Group
support services are also open to all caregivers who would
like to share their problems and experiences with other
caregivers and their families.
The
Meal Program
Heart healthy meals are prepared daily in the Meals on
Wheels PLUS kitchen for those 60 and older and/or disabled
individuals. They provide 1/3 of the DRI (Dietary Reference
Intake) and are approved by a registered dietician.
Participants may either receive home-delivered meals or
choose to attend one of our Friendship Dining Centers
located throughout Manatee County.
Outreach Program
The
Outreach program extends into neighborhoods of varying
socioeconomic levels to serve the needs of the frail and
elderly. Hot, nutritious meals, transportation, health care,
companionship and a clean living environment are assured by
professional assessments of individual situations.
The
Telephone Reassurance Program
Volunteers
make scheduled calls each day to homebound older adults,
providing a few minutes of conversation to check on their
well-being. If there is no answer to the call, a
pre-arranged emergency contact is notified to initiate
further efforts to ensure the client's well-being.
The Food Bank of Manatee
The Food Bank of Manatee, operated by Meals on Wheels PLUS,
distributed nearly one million pounds of food last year to
needy people in Manatee County. The Food Bank agency
membership consists of over 70 pantries, soup kitchens and
meal programs serving needy children and adults. More than
300 volunteers are involved in distributing food through our
emergency food network.
Food
drives and donations are welcome in order to keep our
shelves re-stocked
year round.
Volunteer Opportunities
Our dedicated volunteers make our programs successful by
helping in numerous ways such as delivering meals to homes,
preparing food bank baskets, helping with the Friendship
Dining Centers, Adult Day Center, MOW PLUS office or the
Senior Activity Center.
RSVP
RSVP (The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) invites
individuals over 55 to use their life experience and skills
to answer the call of their neighbors in need, giving
anywhere from four to forty hours per week.
Renaissance on 9th
Our new center will be a gathering place for seniors to
participate in social events, recreational and cultural
enrichment programs as well as health counseling and support
groups. A broad range of services is offered such as income
and legal assistance, insurance counseling and a cooperative
network of providers of assistance.
The Transportation Program
The Transportation Program operated by Meals on Wheels PLUS
within Manatee County enables homebound clients to partake
of daytime social functions not normally available to them.
These functionally impaired clients are unable to drive a
car and have no access to normal public bus service, and
therefore, come to rely upon the mobility provided by the
program.
Community Partnerships
The
Community Partnership Program is a critical component of the
annual fund-raising efforts. The program provides a
dependable stream of income to our operating budget and
features opportunities for companies and organizations to
get involved in event and program sponsorship, volunteer
activities, and gifts-in-kind/wish list.
